Information

Marie Alphonsine or Blessed Marie Alphonsine Ghattas is an Arab Christian nun who was born in Jerusalem with the name Sultana in 1843. She joined the monastic corps in 1860 and made her primary vows in 1863. After showing her vows, she taught Arabic for two years in Jerusalem, during which she founded the "Confraternity of the Immaculate Conception." and the Brotherhood of Christian Mothers. After Jerusalem, she was transferred to Bethlehem, and while she was there, she wanted to establish her own monastic order. The Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem agreed to her request, so the "Holy Rosary Sisters" was founded by her in 1883, accompanied by eight other girls. The monastic laws were approved in 1897 and grew rapidly and the number of its adherents increased. Then, in 1959, it became a pontifical order, ie directly affiliated with the Holy See. Mother Marie Alphonsine toured several areas as part of her teaching and guidance mission in Nazareth, Salt and other places, and finally in Ein Kerem, where she died. She was distinguished by "love, humility, silence, giving and giving."

She was canonized by the Catholic Church on November 22, 2009, after Pope Benedict XVI approved that she had experienced the "Christian virtues" of love, faith and hope during her earthly life, and attributed a miracle of healing to her intercession; The beatification ceremony took place in Nazareth. She was canonized on May 17, 2015.
