Information

Walid Ahmed Al-Sayed is a Palestinian/Jordanian architect, born in Amman in 1966, has lived in London since the nineties and holds British citizenship. He studied architecture at the University of Jordan and graduated from it in 1989. He completed his master's studies in 1995, during which he practiced architectural design with architect Rasem Badran for five years, during which he worked on many important Arab and international projects and competitions. He opened his own office in Amman for three years, during which he designed many housing and private buildings and participated in the international competition for the development of the Egyptian Book House in Cairo in 1993. During his years of working as an architect and joining the master’s program, he was aware of the huge gap between theory and application with the absence of the spirit of scientific research that is the basis of the renaissance of the West. He left his private office in Amman, which was with three architectural colleagues, and joined the PhD program at the University of London in 1996, where he obtained a doctorate in the philosophy of architecture for his thesis in which he discusses the employment of heritage in contemporary Arab architecture by analyzing the works of Hassan Fathi and Rasim Badran using a modern theory: (Space Syntax).
