Said Kamal, whose full name was Muhammad Said Wasfi Kamal (Abu Ziyad; born on February 17, 1943 in Nablus - died on March 25, 2017 in Cairo), was a Palestinian politician and diplomat, and a member of the Palestinian National Council. He was the ambassador of the State of Palestine to the Arab Republic of Egypt, and its permanent representative to League of Arab States, Assistant Secretary-General of the League, Head of the Palestine and Occupied Arab Territories Sector at the League, and was a representative of Palestine in the Afro-Asian Peoples Solidarity Organization.

 

his life

He studied at An-Najah National College until 1956, then left to study at the College of Economics and Political Science in Baghdad in 1958, but he was expelled from Iraq as a result of the July Movement of 1958. He moved to Alexandria University and obtained a bachelor's degree in accounting.

 

Between 1966 and 1969 he was a member of the executive body of the General Union of Palestinian Students, and later head of the Palestinian Popular Organizations Department in Cairo until 1970 when he was appointed deputy director of the PLO office in Egypt.

 

He worked in the political department of the Palestine Liberation Organization for about 18 years and was an assistant to the head of the department.

 

After the declaration of Palestinian independence on November 15, 1988, he was appointed ambassador of the State of Palestine to the Arab Republic of Egypt, as he was considered the first ambassador of the State of Palestine to Cairo and continued in the position until 1994.

 

He assumed the duties of Assistant Secretary General at the Arab League.

Said Kamal died in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, on March 25, 2017.
