Palestinian
photojournalist Fatima Shabeer (25 years) from the Gaza Strip won the award of
the 85th International Press Photo Competition organized by the World Press
Photography Organization.
Shabeer
won through a competition of 64,000 photographs, in which 400 photographers
representing 130 countries participated, and she achieved first place in the
single photograph of the continent of Asia with her photo entitled “Palestinian
Children in Gaza.”
The
organization holds the World Press Photo Competition annually, celebrating the
best photojournalism and documentary photography produced over the past year,
and has announced the winners in its regional categories, including Africa,
Asia and Europe.
The
best images were decided by global juries, with each region divided into four
categories: singles, stories, long-term projects and open format.
It is
noteworthy that the World Press Photography Organization has organized this
competition since 1955, and allows photojournalists to present their work to a
global audience.
The
Foundation is headquartered in the Dutch capital, Amsterdam, and has branches

Fatima
was called the youngest courageous journalist in the world, after winning the
German “Anya Niedringhaus Courage Award” in photojournalism from the
International Women’s Media Foundation (IWMF) in October 2021, which is awarded
to female photographers who advance in the first ranks and put themselves at
risk in order to obtain news. pictured.
Fatima,
the youngest newspaper to receive the award, was able to take pictures from
Gaza in front of buildings whose windows and doors were destroyed due to the

The
photos taken by Fatima - who works as an independent journalist - focused on
the Israeli aggression on Gaza in May 2021, where she was able in unusual ways
to document daily life under the continuous bombardment and among the wreckage
in very harsh conditions, which attracted the attention of the jury.
The
Anja Niedringhaus Prize is named after a German Associated Press photographer
who was killed in 2014 while working in Afghanistan. Fatima participated in the
award with a illustrated story that reflected the reality of the situation and
the destruction that befell the people of Gaza.
At
the end of last August, Fatima also won the French “Remy Ochlik” award, which
is announced every year to honor young photographers in the world. She won this
award in the category of the best annual photo report on the conflict.
Throughout
Fatima's life - a quarter of a century - the Palestinians lived in very harsh
conditions imposed by the reality of the occupation and prevented her and her
peers from enjoying the childhood years, starting with the Al-Aqsa Intifada in
2000 and passing through Israel's wars on Gaza from 2008 until the middle of
last year, so her personality was affected by the conflict and she faced the
restrictions of the occupation and the war machine. With her lens, she
