Информация

Maliha Afnan (March 24, 1935 - January 6, 2016) was a Palestinian artist.

Maliha was born in Haifa to parents of Iranian origin who belong to the Baha'i sect. Her great-grandfather, Husayn Ali Nuri, was the prophet of the Baha'i faith, though she was not a member of the Baha'i community.

Maliha Afnan moved to Beirut with her family in 1949. She earned a Bachelor of Arts from the American University of Beirut and a Master of Arts in Fine Arts from the Corcoran College of Art and Design in Washington, DC. Afnan lived in Kuwait from 1963 to 1966, then moved to Beirut from 1966 to 1974 and in Paris from 1974 to 1997, when she moved to London.

Afnan's artwork has appeared primarily in France and in London. As for her first solo exhibition, it was in the Basel Gallery in 1971, and it was organized by the American artist Mark Toby. Some of her works are also in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the British Museum in London and in the collection of Written Art in Germany and the Institut du Monde Arabe in Paris and the collection of the BAII Bank in Paris.

Maliha Afnan passed away in London at the age of 80.
