Information

Mohammad Abu Sall was born in Breij refugee camp, Palestine in 1976.

After graduating with a BSc Degree in 1999, the artist became a member of Berlin Arts Center where he took a course by Professor Marwan Bachi that lasted until 2003. He also took a Mural painting course under the expert hands of Japanese Artist Testo Kimetany and later in 2001, took a Graphic Design course through the University of Macromedia, USA.

Mohamed Abu Sal is a young artist whose time is spent between painting and giving art lessons to children. Abu Sal is prolific and in a few years has produced several series. One set deals with Palestinians' love of their land and the different realities of separation and exile. The series presented in this exhibition are abstracted figures and faces either in groups or alone exploring identity through color and image. In his most recent work, strong expressive images of cactus fill up his canvas— the cactus plant being a familiar Palestinian symbol.

In Abu Sal's work the cactus, which he paints in warm greens, ocher, browns and reds, are sometimes passionate and raging, and other times, stoic and resilient. Mohammad Abu Sall currently lives and works in Gaza, Palestine.
