1948, refugee in Syria and Lebanon. Lived and worked in the US and the Palestinian Territories, LLM in International Human Rights Law from Essex University, Colchester, U.K. in 1992, worked with the Ford Foundation office for the Middle East and North Africa, Cairo, 2001-2002.

Director of the Forced Migration and Refugee Studies Program, American University in Cairo, from 2003; Regional Representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Beirut, OHCHR Beirut since 2006, contributed to the boards of several Palestinian, Arab and international human rights organizations and participated in human rights missions and projects by Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch in Syria, Algeria, Morocco and elsewhere, taught FMRS course International Refugee Law as well as Palestinian Refugee Issues, has published in Arabic and English in the fields of human rights and theater, previously, he directed Al-Haq, a Palestinian human rights organization, Director of the Nuzha - El-Hakawati Theatre in East Jerusalem, education and outreach at Oxfam America, Boston. His writings on human rights and theater include Political Rights and the Practice of Democracy, 1995 and articles in Human Rights Quarterly, Nordic Journal of International Law, and Arab Journal for Human Rights.
