Juliano Mer Khamis (May 29, 1958 - April 4, 2011) is a Palestinian director and actor with Israeli citizenship, and a political activist.

Khamis was born in Nazareth, the son of the late Arna Mer, a Jewish activist who fought for Palestinian rights, and the late Saliba Khamis, a Palestinian activist, journalist and writer, one of the leaders of the Israeli Communist Party in the 1950s. He says of himself: "I am one hundred percent Palestinian and one hundred percent Jewish."

His career
Over the years, Mir has played roles in domestic and foreign series, television and film. His first film was "The Little Drummer Girl", a 1984 American film directed by George Roy Hill and starring Diane Keaton, which deals with the Arab-Israeli conflict. After that he acted in V'Tehilah Za'am "(1985). Later he acted in the films "V'Tehilah Za'am" (1985). "Tape 51" (1985), "Wedding in Galilee" (1987), "Stories Tel Aviv" (1992), "Zohar" (1993), "Its Hadumim Tavs" (1994), "The 1812 Show" (1997), "Yom Yom Kippur" (1998) and more. In 2003 Meir produced and directed, along with Daniel Daniel, his first documentary, "Arna's Children". The film revolves around his mother who worked to establish a children's theater in Jenin during the eighties, seven years after his mother's death. After the battle in Jenin in 2002, Meer returned to Jenin to meet and meet the children who participated in the theater. In 2006, in the wake of the wave of international support that followed his film, Meir opened a community theater for children and adults in Jenin, which he called "Freedom Theatre".

In 2006, Mer Khamis continued his mother's career by founding "Freedom Theatre" alongside Zakaria al-Zubaidi, the former military commander of the Al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades in Jenin and with Jonatan Stanczak, an Israeli-Swedish activist, and Dror Weiler, an Israeli-Swedish artist, a theater and complex that provides Opportunities for children and youth in Jenin refugee camp to develop their skills, self-knowledge and confidence and to use the creative process as a model for social change.

his death
Khamis was killed by masked gunmen in front of the Freedom Theatre, which he had established in the Jenin refugee camp. He was rushed to the hospital, but was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Prime Minister Salam Fayyad condemned the killing, saying, "We cannot remain silent in the face of this heinous crime, because this constitutes a serious violation that goes beyond all human principles and values, and contradicts the customs and ethics of coexistence."
