He became famous in Palestine in the seventies and eighties for his intellectual lessons and lectures and for sparring with the leftist and secular tide in Palestine, and among his sheikhs was Wahba Al-Zuhaili, his brother Muhammad Al-Zuhaili, Muhammad Adib Salih, Adnan Zarzour, Muhammad Saeed Ramadan Al-Bouti, Fathi Al-Derini, Noureddine Ater, and Muhammad Hisham Burhani And other Syrian scholars, and legal scholars such as Wahid al-Din Suwar.

Political thoughts and positions

In the seventies and eighties of the last century, he was trying to resist Westernization and atheistic, leftist and secular ideas, and he had among the people dialogues with atheists, which brought a number of people to follow his debates. As a result of his advocacy and intellectual activities against the Israeli occupation, he was subjected several times to administrative detention in the prisons of the Zionist occupation, which lasted for years, and deportation with the deportees of Marj al-Zohour to Lebanon, and some of his arrests came directly after a lecture he gave in the mosques of the city of Al-Bireh or Ramallah.

He was also a supporter of the Syrian revolution against Bashar al-Assad.

His interest in the interpretation of the Qur'an and numerical miracles

Sheikh Bassam Jarrar has dozens of lectures and lessons in the interpretation of the surahs of the Noble Qur’an, and linking them with reality. He was also interested in the issue of number and the numerical miracle in the Qur'an, and his research on the issue of number in the Qur'an has developed a lot until it revealed new things. His research, entitled (The demise of Israel 2022, a prophecy or a digital coincidence), was a scientific research away from sorcery and prediction. Which made Sheikh Bassam establish a center for Qur’anic studies called Noun Center for Qur’anic Studies and Research, whose most important objectives are serving the Qur’an and developing research on the numerical miracles of the Holy Qur’an.

On the other hand, some scholars reject his research and many Muslim scholars warn against using the numerical miracles in the Qur’an, because the numerical miracles are not based on specific rules. Muslim scholars also warn against relying on the calculation of “camels” to give each word or letter a number, because the Prophet Muhammad did not adopt that and because the origin of the calculation of “camels” was with the Jews.
